Astronomy Photographer of the Year Aurorae Winner 2023
I am very honoured to have won the Aurorae Category of Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2023! The competition is run by the Royal Museums Greenwich in London and an exhibition is currently being hosted at the National Maritime Museum in London.
“The judging panel loved the elegant simplicity of this abstract image. We are accustomed to seeing aurora from an earthly perspective with mountains, trees and humanmade structures framing the dancing lights. This photograph offers something different, showcasing the beauty of the aurora in isolation. The composition evokes the arts of brush-painting and calligraphy, which are practiced in many cultures around the world.” – Judge Katherine Gazzard
Brushstroke was take in Utjsoki, Finland, one of the best places to try and catch the Northern Lights. Join me there in 2024 for Spring Light in Lapland!

Light and Ice Canadian Rockies Photography Workshop
Nov 16-19, 2023
Banff National Park
The Canadian Rockies offer breathtaking landscapes year-round, and winter provides a unique and magical setting for photography. From snow-covered mountains to frozen lakes and stunning ice details, there are numerous opportunities to capture stunning winter scenes. We will be aiming to capture scenes in all kinds of light, including starlight and moonlight. We will try to maximize our opportunities to photograph at night.
Photographing the famous methane bubbles trapped in ice at Abraham is one of the most fun subjects to shoot in winter. As the lake freezes and water levels vary, bubbles become trapped in the ice and the ice cracks in exciting patterns. It’s a photographers dream for foregrounds.
Limited class size.
