At my latitude, it is possible to get the Milky Way and aurora together on the same night – usually the aurora is at the northern section of the Milky Way arc. When the aurora is particularly strong, it can creep all the way to the southern portion of the sky. Here Emerald Lake lodge lights up the foreground while curtains of aurora pulsate next to the Milky Way while twilight approaches.
